It took me a total of four flights and three changes to make it to Mayen’s wedding a couple of weeks ago in South Palms Beach Resort, Bohol. I was supposed to fly in with my ex, but the airline screwed up the plane maintenance schedule without informing its passengers in advance… (*slow clap*)

When I found out, I gave a mini sigh of relief. I didn’t have to bump into him and get into an awkward situation. (Phew!) But when we actually did see each other in Panglao Island it turned out to be a reunion between two decent people who honestly want the other to be happy 🙂 #breakupgoals ? If you’re my ex and you’re reading this right now, please don’t kill me. I didn’t mean to write this in, but you know, sometimes.. word vomit…

My first beach wedding ever, and it was take-your-breath-away gorgeous with perfect weather. Wish I spent more time enjoying the beach! But let’s focus on the wedding!!

Being in my late twenties, I definitely thought I would have more budget to travel more. Hence the name of this website. Little did I realize how much of that budget would be used for travelling to my friends’ destination weddings. (Do you see how I neatly tied together travel and weddings, making this post totally relevant to travel blogging?!)

I could not get over how beautiful the flower arrangements were, all flown in from abroad. See all credits below.
The bride – Mayen – of course decided to give me some last minute responsibilities. One was to be a veil sponsor (in the Philippines, this means I have to pin the veil on her other veil to show how they are united together under one veil…?).

The second responsibility was to be the MC / host. And of course I crammed the whole script the morning before I flew from Manila to Bohol, after I flew in from Hong Kong…

This couple will have seriously beautiful kids
Unfortunately, since I crammed it, I wasn’t able to get all the answers I wanted from the couple. You see, I had come up with a small questionnaire to extract anecdotes out of them so I could insert these fun facts and trivia whenever I had dead time in between spiels.

The entourage before the ceremony. Why did I wear heels… sand, everywhere… later I switched to sandals, and then gave up on those too and went barefoot during the reception

This begins a series of photos in which I look like a scheming and evil bitter bridesmaid…

Love all around!
I actually never got to swim in those pristine waters; one, because I still had open wounds from Chaing Mai , and two because of the sea urchins. But I *did* go paddle boarding for a bit before I had to change into all that jazz to look as fair a damsel as a dark person can look…

Finally, how did I do as a host? Well, for my first stint, at least I can describe it as ‘unforgettable’ ;)…! Really awkward at first, and then I got a couple of glasses of wine in me, a few inappropriate jokes here and there, memory loss, and then my French co-host who was supposed to translate into French went off to become the lead guitarist of the band, whose drummer was actually the groom’s father from Toulouse… playing ‘Noypi’ by Bamboo, the heavily-French-accented version…

The Malagos CHEESE cake from Davao (the bride’s family are from the South, apparently the couple are not big fans of cakes)
Anyway it was a great night 🙂 The only thing about having weddings in South Palms is that you can’t expect much of an after party because they ask you to tone down the music for the other guests after a certain point. But chilling and drinking on the beach + stargazing more than made up for it. And if you have energy to wake up at 5am, there’s dolphin watching (!!). Unfortunately I was not alive for that.

I may appear the bitter bridesmaid, but I honest-to-goodness adore weddings and by all means everyone, please have kickass weddings and invite me to them :))

whoever suggested that the bridesmaids wear that color is a GENIUS . that made an already picturesque wedding all the more perfect.

btw – it’s me again, rhiese. i lost access to the wordpress site i made when i commented months back (again) and now i have this one. i’m keeping the password to this on a post-it note, lol.
